Inspiring Interiors from the Editors of Chicago Home + Garden Magazine

An inspiring book for your coffee table.

--Haute Design

Chicago's reputation for world-class architecture is well documented, but what many people don't realize is that the city's interior designers are just as phenomenal as its architects. Chicago Spaces goes where most other books about the city's design culture have not—inside.

With big names such as Nate Berkus and Alessandra Branca putting Chicago on the national design map and lesser-known (but no less talented) design pros working their magic from the Gold Coast to the North Shore and beyond, the Chicago metropolitan area teems with beautifully designed and decorated homes. This gorgeous coffee table book is devoted not only to showing these dwellings in all their splendor, but also telling the stories of how they came to be.

What is Chicago style? Chicago Spaces shows that it can be many things. Glamorous. Cozy. Ultra-modern. Vintage. And sometimes, all of the above--even together, in one space. Whether they live in large houses, small apartments, high-rises, bungalows, or lofts, Chicagoans aren't afraid to express themselves through their homes, and--loaded with beautiful photography and lively, informative interviews with both designers and homeowners--this book shares how they do it.

Compiled by the editors of Chicago Home + Garden magazine (a publication of Chicago magazine), Chicago Spaces is divided into two parts. The first features homes in their entirety, while the second focuses on specific rooms: dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, baths, dens, foyers, and children's rooms. Readers will learn how these spaces came together and find tips for making changes in their own homes, as well as a directory of the best furniture and accessories shops in the area.

Today, people are looking for smart ways to turn their homes into comfortable, stylish oases from the complicated world. In Chicago Spaces, Chicagoans can find inspiration from their own "neighbors," while readers everywhere will be enticed by the beauty of the projects featured. This book will make a wonderful gift for any design-lover, and certainly one who loves Chicago.

The pages are decorated with clear, crisp, colourful images from every corner of homes in Chicago. The photos are big and bold taking up most of the page space, drawing the reader's eyes into the smallest of details.

Debbie Travis House to Home
One of my favourite books this season is compiled and written by Jan Parr and the editors of Chicago Home + Garden Magazine. Chicago Spaces: Inspiring Interiors (Agate Surrey, $51.95) is a jewel. Although it focuses on Chicago spaces, the design mix easily transfers to any destination.

Real Estate by Design
I absolutely love Chicago Spaces from the editorial team at Chicago Home + Garden magazine led by the ever-so-talented Jan Parr. The book highlights so many fresh, sophisticated homes and it's instructive to see local resources and talent producing such great design. This was my holiday gift to all of my Real Estate By Design clients and it was a hit!

The Daily Herald
The rooms featured in the book show contemporary furniture, traditional pieces and some mixtures of both.

Stunning rooms selected by Parr and the magazine's other editors include a bold red library in a Chicago condominium on Astor Street, and a dining room in a nearby Indiana city where mirrors, traditional molding and Lucite chairs combine for high drama.

La Dolce Vita
Penned by Jan Parr and the editors of Chicago Home + Garden Magazine, this book includes a foreword by Chicago design darling, Nate Berkus. The spaces in this book embody all of the incarnations of modern design—there are cool, contemporary spaces, clean lines mixed with glamorous pieces, and several eclectic rooms. Chicago Spaces features some of the most stunning homes its namesake city has to offer and feels different from many of the design books I have, which was quite refreshing.

You'll be glad you took the time, because this baby is chock-full of amazing homes that will solidify Chicago's rep as a Tier 1 design city. You might also enjoy the forward by our very own, extraordinarily talented Nate Berkus.

Apartment Therapy
Following a foreword by local design fave Nate Berkus, the book has a unique structure - the first section shows entire homes, the second focuses on solutions for specific rooms. A directory of the editor's picks for best Chicagoland resources is also included.

Fabulous...beautifully printed.
