April 24th is Independent Bookstore Day and at least 23 Chicago-area bookstores are joining the fun. Whether you’re shopping online or visiting in person, here’s a sampler of their plans so you can celebrate with them.
Women & Children First
This feminist bookstore in Andersonville is one of the largest of its kind in the country. In addition to tote bag, poster, and ARC giveaways, they have a schedule filled with exciting events including story time, crafts, and a bake sale.

Volumes Bookcafe
Located on Michigan Avenue, Volumes Bookcafe will be carrying Indie Bookstore Day exclusives, as well as a number of deals including free parking and audiobook giveaways.
Semicolon Bookstore & Gallery
If you know any Chicago Public School students, send them over to Semicolon Bookstore & Gallery in West Town for the first #ClearTheShelves event of 2021! Semicolon will be giving free books to children, kids, and young adults all morning. Also, they will be giving away ceramic book kits for customers who spend $20 or more!

Unabridged Bookstore
Unabridged in Lakeview will be giving away free tote bags to those who spend $100 or more. You can also get 10% off your total purchase, and take part in a special 40% off sale on select autographed titles. All these deals are available to customers both in-store and online!

Bookends & Beginnings
Join Bookends & Beginnings in Evanston for their “Friends Don’t Let Friends Buy Books from Amazon” campaign. The first 10 people to purchase a copy of How to Resist Amazon and Why will receive a free second copy to give away to someone else, and anyone who buys two copies will get $2 off the purchase.
